Apple's $95 Million Siri Settlement Deadline Nears: How to Get Your Cash

By: INGLOBE Magazine News Desk
There are only a few days left to apply and receive part of a $95 million class action lawsuit settlement after Apple’s famous voice assistant, Siri, was accused of spying on users without their consent. Users who have owned a Siri-enabled Apple device since 2014 have until Wednesday, July 2, 2025, to be eligible to receive part of the settlement.
The lawsuit, Lopez v. Apple, was filed in a California federal court in 2021 by users who allege that their private conversations were recorded by their Apple devices after they unintentionally activated Siri. Although a settlement has been reached, Apple has denied the allegations made in the complaint, according to the legal notice obtained by USA TODAY.
“If you owned or purchased a Siri-enabled device and experienced an unintended Siri activation during a confidential or private communication between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, you should read this Notice as it may impact your legal rights,” the legal notice states.
Key Points: What You Need to Know About the Siri Settlement
Who Is Eligible?
You must have owned or used a Siri-enabled Apple device between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024.
You must have experienced at least one unintended Siri activation during a private or confidential conversation.
You must have lived in the United States during the relevant period.
Eligible devices include iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, Apple TV, and iPod touch.
How Much Can You Receive?
Eligible claimants can receive up to $20 per device, for up to five devices.
The total maximum payout per person is $100.
The actual payout may vary depending on the total number of valid claims submitted.
How to File a Claim
Claims must be filed by July 2, 2025, the final deadline.
If you received a settlement email or postcard, it will include a Claimant ID and Confirmation Code to submit your claim at the official settlement website: www.SiriPrivacySettlement.com.
If you did not receive a notice but believe you qualify, you can still file by providing your Apple ID email, device information (serial number and model), and proof of purchase (receipt, invoice, or account history).
Background of the Lawsuit
The lawsuit alleged that Siri sometimes activated without user prompting and recorded private conversations.
These recordings were reportedly reviewed by third-party contractors and used for targeted advertising.
Apple denies wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid prolonged litigation.
What’s Next?
A final court approval hearing is scheduled for August 1, 2025, in California.
Payments will be distributed only if the settlement is approved by the judge and any appeals are resolved.
Why This Matters
This settlement offers affected Apple users a chance to be compensated for privacy violations linked to unintended Siri activations. Given the widespread use of Siri-enabled devices over the past decade, many users may be eligible for a payout — but time is running out to claim it.
