The militant group Hamas has issued a rare appeal to Iran, urging its key ally to halt attacks on Gulf states as tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East. The statement comes as drone and missile strikes linked to Iran have affected several countries in the region.

In a public message, Hamas said it was following the conflict with “deep concern” and called on Iran to avoid targeting neighbouring countries. The group emphasized that regional nations should work together to maintain stability and preserve “the bonds of brotherhood.”

The appeal marks a notable shift in tone from Hamas toward its long-time supporter Iran. While Hamas reaffirmed Tehran’s right to defend itself against attacks by the United States and Israel, it also urged restraint when it comes to neighbouring Gulf nations.

Iranian officials say their retaliatory strikes have targeted American installations located in Gulf countries rather than the states themselves. However, some attacks have reportedly damaged civilian infrastructure, increasing regional tensions.

According to reports cited by BBC News, several Gulf states have been affected by drone and missile strikes during the ongoing conflict.

Regional Impact of Iran's Retaliatory Strikes

Over the past two weeks, Iranian strikes have been felt across the Gulf region. A drone attack on Saturday hit the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, home to a major oil export facility.

Authorities say at least 18 people have been killed across the region so far. Six fatalities were reported in the UAE and another six in Kuwait, while Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain each reported two deaths.

Energy infrastructure and transport facilities have also been affected, raising concerns about potential disruptions to global oil supply chains.

Hamas and Iran’s Strategic Alliance

Iran has long been Hamas’s most significant supporter, providing financial backing, military assistance and political support. The group is also considered part of Iran’s so-called “axis of resistance,” an informal coalition opposing US and Israeli influence in the region.

Hamas recently condemned the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during the first day of the war in joint US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

Despite this close alliance, Hamas’s latest statement suggests growing concern about the widening regional conflict and its potential consequences.

Ongoing Conflict and Ceasefire Tensions

The Middle East conflict continues amid fragile ceasefire negotiations involving Israel and Hamas. A US-brokered ceasefire agreement took effect last October, but both sides have accused each other of repeated violations.

According to the Hamas-run health ministry, hundreds of people have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began.

Hamas has called on international organisations and governments to push for an immediate halt to the war, warning that continued escalation could destabilize the entire region.
